Lesson 4 of 6

Earning reviews that rank (and replying well)

7 min read

Reviews drive both ranking and clicks

Review quantity, quality, recency, and your responses all feed prominence. They also influence the human: a business with 120 recent 4.8-star reviews wins the click over one with 11 old ones.

An ethical system that works

  • Ask every happy customer, at the right moment — right after a great result, in person or by a follow-up text/email.
  • Make it one tap — send a direct link to your review form. (GrowMyWebsite's review-link generator does this.)
  • Never buy or fake reviews, and never gate them (asking only happy customers to post while diverting unhappy ones). It violates the guidelines and FTC rules and can get you penalized.

Reply to every review

Respond to positive reviews with genuine thanks. For negative ones, stay calm, take it offline, and show future readers you handle problems well. Public, professional replies are a trust signal Google and customers both reward.

Make it routine

Consistency beats bursts. A few new reviews every week, year-round, outperforms a one-time push.
