Lesson 6 of 6

Running a technical audit & monitoring

7 min read

A practical audit checklist

  • Indexing: Search Console Pages report — are important URLs indexed? Any spikes in "excluded"?
  • Crawl: broken links (404s), redirect chains/loops, orphan pages, mixed canonical signals.
  • Canonicals: each page has a correct self- or cross-canonical; no duplicate-content sprawl.
  • Speed: Core Web Vitals passing on mobile (where most users are).
  • Structured data: valid, error-free, present on key templates.
  • Mobile: responsive, tappable, no horizontal scroll.
  • HTTPS & security headers: valid certificate, no mixed content.
  • Sitemaps & robots.txt: accurate and submitted.

Prioritize by impact

Fix things that block indexing or crawling first (they cap everything else), then site-wide template issues (one fix, many pages), then page-level polish.

Monitor, don't just audit

Set up alerts: Search Console emails for coverage/manual actions, uptime monitoring, and scheduled re-audits so regressions (a stray noindex, a speed regression after a deploy) get caught fast. GrowMyWebsite runs daily audits and alerts you the moment a score slips — turning technical SEO from a yearly project into an always-on safety net.

You've completed the technical track: crawlable, well-structured, schema-rich, fast, and monitored. That's the durable foundation everything else is built on.
